I got interested in doing a site like this because when I was younger, I lived in an area that was prone to earthquakes. Those scared me a lot. Also, there were so many reports in the news about people loosing everything to Earthquakes, floods, fires. My Church leaders taught about Emergency Preparedness and soon the Community leaders were teaching it as well. I didn’t like feeling like there was nothing I could do about them (and that part was true). I didn’t like the feeling of being helpless, so I wanted to do something that could help myself as well as help others dissipate those same fears.
Knowing how to respond in an emergency is a great way to dispel the fears. It is like being a fighter. When you get in the ring for the very first time, you may be afraid of getting beat up. However, once you learn how to defend yourself, those fears are no longer valid. I have heard a saying in the past, “Knowledge is power”; and in this case that is very true. When you have knowledge, you have more power over what happens in your own life. I want to help others gain that knowledge, so they can have that power as well.
Disasters can happen any where and anytime. Some are natural and others are man-made. However, it doesn’t matter which kind it is, as long as you know what to do when it strikes. People have a tendency to panic when disasters strike because they don’t know what to do. However, once that knowledge is gained and that power over one’s life if obtained, then it makes these disasters much more survivable.
That is what this site is all about; empowering the average person to help them know what to do when disasters happen.
